concept and Fabric and Colour board

More stand development

Here I knotted and draped wool onto the stand to create a really organic silhouette I really like the effortless weight it portrays.

Stand work

I decided to do some work on the stand using knit and weaving techniques and came up with these details using plastic tubing as the base of which the wool wraps around. I love the way it can be manipulated into different forms. I would like to develop this further so that it has a bias fluid garment wrapped within the tubes.

Fabric manipulation techniques

I have been having an experimental day using mesh, wool and lots of leather to create interesting fabrications that reflect my concept.I really like this rag rugging technique as it resembles a fur - like textile. The finish result is really effective and has a lot of movement.
With this one I slashed some leather and created depth by weaving through some jersey fabric.
In the flesh this basket weave fabrication looks really powerful and intricate.

Knit/chain maille ideas

My sketchbook

Here I looked at scarring and manipulation of the body. Which led me to look at many artists, such as Christine wright and Annette Messager.

Research into my concept

I began looking into global hand craft weaving techniques and how I could develop this with a mesh fabric.

My Concept

TRANCEND

tranˈsɛnd,trɑːn-/
verb
  1. 1.
be or go beyond the range or limits of (a field of activity or conceptual sphere).
"this was an issue transcending party politics"

My concept is to look further than everyday life into different cultures and globalisation. Working with hand craftsmanship techniques to create something Beyond minimalism and the 'norm'.

My influences from Galliano are his bias cuts, structural outerwear and his metalwork accessories. I will experiment with many hand crafts throughout this module.

My Presentation

John Galliano

I have been given the designer John Galliano to research, looking at and analysing their work, the era and what makes them iconic. It will be this designer that I will produce a concept for and design a contemporary directional range.

Scenario

You have been headhunted by an international fashion company who have seen your graduate show and want you to develop a capsule collection for them.

You have been asked to make a presentation of your findings, on the company and your initial research for a new collection for the brand, to the senior design team. (Staff and students).

You will then carry out further research and idea development. Research must contain all aspects of the garment development from concept through to cut and construction research including seam finishing’s and trims/ zips etc.

You will then select, to cut and construct two outfits that typify your concept.
